"ANGELS FOR MDA"
A HAIR & FASHION SHOW TO BENEFIT THE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION
On Sunday, August 15, 2010, Joseph & Friends Lifestyle Salon & Spa hosted this unique and exciting event, a hair and fashion show at Londzell's Martini Lounge & Restaurant in Roswell, GA, with all proceeds going directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Galerie Boutique in Alpharetta provided the clothing and models. Staci Leavitt and Jamie Lee organized the event, and volunteers included Julia Meyers, Robert Richardson, Jennifer Kendall, and John Jacquin. Several MDA families participated in the show, including Laura Beth Jacquin, Melanie Woodard, and Dakota Smith.
This memorable evening featured some of our MDA patient families as models, a silent auction offering many fantastic donated items, and an array of elegant hors d'oeuvres. Donors for the auction included Bath & Body Works, Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Goodyear, Pottery Barn, and many more. A live band performed, and local boutique owner, Kathy Kressler of Galerie Boutique, donated her time and clothing for the event, which raised $4,690. Staci Leavitt, Kathy Kressler, and Behnaz Golshani presented a check at the local MDA Telethon on Sept 6, 2010. This past spring, Joseph & Friends sold MDA Shamrocks in their salon as well, raising an additional $1,000 for MDA.
Funds raised benefit over 2,220 families in the Metro Atlanta and North Georgia areas by providing assistance in the maintenance of wheelchairs, leg braces and speech communication devices; MDA clinic visits; a week-long summer camp for children living with muscle disorders; lifesaving research, and much more.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. We frequently say that it takes a believer in oneself and then in others to achieve greatness. Our Education Team travels the world to bring some of the latest styles and techniques to our staff. The Joseph & Friends Academy was established to demonstrate our commitment to education.
For the Hair Department, we have created a comprehensive educational program, which prepares our professionals with advanced techniques and procedures in their given specialties. BootCamp is taught by some of the elite professionals in the industry who have a passion for what they do. After one month of employment with Joseph & Friends, every stylist attends our BootCamp. BootCamp is an intense four to five week training consists of one week of cutting education, one week of color education and one week of demonstrating what they've learned by bringing in models. After graduation, the stylist is promoted and then attends weekly Advanced Education Classes for two more months. It is after this period, that the stylist has graduated the Academy and continues their education with other stylists.
For the Spa Department, we work closely with Aveda Purefessionals to educate our Team Members on the latest spa techniques and rituals. Our Spa Managers have years of experience and take great pride in sharing and growing our new Team Members.
